It was quite sad leaving Tassie and thinking that I won't see all of my family and friends there for a whole year. When you're at the start of these things, it seems like a really long time but I am sure that time will fly!
I left Tassie with my 4 bags, computer and trusty thermomix - there's no way I wanted to leave that behind! Since I'm not the best cook in the world and also don't love cooking as much as others, it helps me a lot. Already it's been very useful, so I'm thankful that I carried it through all of the airports - worth the effort :)
I arrived in Brisbane on Saturday afternoon and Son came to pick me up. Yay! Was so good to see her after not living in the same state for a few months. I spent the weekend catching up with Son & Jonny and Kate & Nick and a few others and it was FABULOUS! We went out to the coolest little Indian restaurant - which had the freshest flavours I've ever tasted - chilled on the couch with a good wine, chatted, picnicked with the best view of Brisbane ever and just generally had a great time.
It was nice and hot too which was helpful for acclimatising for PNG. Heat and humidity is what I will live with this year so it was good that Brisbane warmed me up for it.
Thanks to everyone who made my last days in Australia so enjoyable - Sonia & Jonny for having me stay, the chats, fun times and all the airport lifts (it felt just like home!), Kate & Nick for all the catchups, laughs and fun, Chris & Patrice for hosting a delicious lunch and Alicia for being so hilarious all the time! I had a great weekend! It was sad to go, but I'll see you all again soon.
