Getting Ready for a New Adventure

This year I’m working in Papua New Guinea again. It’s quite the adventure to be embarking on and one that involved a lot of decision making and praying last year. As you know, I have been here a few times before, so it helped a lot in knowing what I was going to.

The visa process was quite an interesting one! I sent the first part in last September (it’s a three part process) and then proceeded to wait…. and wait….. and wait! With PNG nothing happens quickly! After a few months I received my work permit and could then send my passport off to Sydney for the rest of the processing. This still took quite a lot of time! Finally, in late February, my visa was approved! After almost 5 months of waiting!!

During the months of January and February I was busy with packing up my house, sorting through all of my stuff from school and from home and helping out with all things wedding for Lauren and Dan. There was plenty to do, especially since I found that I own far more things than I ever imagined – much to the horror of some of my family members!

At times I thought the packing process was never ending, but I got there and would soon be on the way to PNG – after many months of planning and preparation.

The journey had many stages:
1-      Making the decision to go
2-      Getting the visa sorted
3-      Packing, packing and more packing
4-      Moving out of my house
5-      Tying up as many loose ends in Australia as I could think of
6-      Packing my bags for PNG, repacking them and repacking them again!
7-   The goodbyes
8-      Leaving Tassie

The next stage would be hanging out in Brisbane for a few days before actually leaving Australia – I’ll save that part for my next post J

Here’s a few photos to enjoy.

Some of my belongings...!

A few more - precariously balanced! Cheers to Mum and Dad for putting up with extra stuff in their house... and to Stu who has a whole bunch more. Don't be too shocked - I'm a teacher and teachers collect lots of useful things, you know! Birch Avenue has a lot of storage, hey Sylv and it can hide in many unknown places :) I am still striving for minimalism.....

A final selfie before heading to the airport.

That long awaited visa!
