Classroom Shenanigans

I had a blast teaching in Timor - it was far less stressful than regular classroom work. It was heaps of fun getting the class to come out of their shells and be willing to come up the front, interact with us and join in with the that we were doing. It took a few lessons, but before too long they were really getting into it. The Kinder, Prep and Grade 1 children, of course, were much less inhibited and were super keen to come up to us, show us their tricks and gain our attention. That's the nature of little kids, especially when they see white people, who seem so interesting to them! All of my teaching was done in the Secondary classrooms but I managed to visit the other classes, which I loved. The little ones are more my style :)

Jacobus - has come to New Hope recently. He is Jitros's brother :)

Antonio - a super fun little guy! He kept calling us girls 'Mum'. Maybe he thinks all white women who are older than him are like his Mum?

The 9&10 students - trying to get out of having to be the next one in the game of charades.

In the afternoon we went for a swim in the river. It's just too hot to do anything else!

Isaiah 40:31 '...but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall be weary; they shall walk and not be faint.'

Up the track going to the homestay.

The next day we went for a swim at Tilong Dam. Jade jumped on Fictor's motorbike to get there - he was trying to freak Fictor out by holding him uncomfortably :)

Beautiful Tilong.

All trying to drag Fictor in - he kept proclaiming that it was too cold for swimming!

Very refreshing!

Tori on Dever's bike.

Grace hanging off the back of the truck. Her smile says it all!

A fire... because when it gets dark and it super hot already, it makes perfect sense to light a fire, right?!

Enjoying the heat?

The younger boys giving the Uno cards a workout.

The Year 1 Classroom.

Check out this guy's rats tail!

This made me laugh! The teacher is teaching up the front and at least half of the students are not paying any attention..... oh, how familiar this is sometimes!

This little guy was distracting himself by drawing on his hand. He held his hand in a fist and then flung it open, saying 'WAH!' as a sound effect - in other words - surprise, here is a person, you weren't expecting that, were you?!

Adding a few more...

His little family of distraction!

And now one for my mate.

'WAH!'

The Kinder kids.

This little girl wanted a photo with me. Cute :)

A class shot on the swings.

The teachers. This was NOT break time - it was class time and we were doing the teaching! Most of these people are prac students, so wondered why they weren't in the classroom watching us to see if they could learn something...

Ferdi, singing his psalm at the top of his lungs!
Prep class.

Embarrassed at being watched I think.

Oh well, may as well just keep on singing!

Lining up at the end of the day, pushing and shoving all the way!
